Kaoru Touno's family is falling apart. After the death of a sibling and his parents' divorce, he no longer feels any peace at home. Following a heated confrontation with his father, Kaoru runs out of his house and finds himself before a mysterious tunnel, which pulls him in. Bewildered by what he sees inside, he rushes to the exit, picking up a bird that looks identical to his deceased pet on his way out.
Upon emerging outside, Kaoru realizes that, despite him spending just a few minutes inside the tunnel, an entire week has passed. The bizarre experience leads him to remember the rumors of "Urashima Tunnel"—a passage that grants wishes in exchange for one's lifespan. Given the resurrection of his pet bird, Kaoru cannot help but wonder if another visit can help fix his messed up life.
However, when he returns to the entrance of the mysterious tunnel, Kaoru realizes that he has been followed by Anzu Hanashiro, a new transfer student in his class. A group of scientists are sent to Antarctica in 2113 A.D. to investigate strange seismic activity. They stumble upon markings similar to the Nazca paleoglyphs and discover an underground cavern with a part of a huge tower sticking out of it. Using their cameras, the team transmits images to their Command Center that reveal a star chart on the tower's surface. The tower then emits a high-frequency noise that causes the team to writhe in pain and die, followed by the Command Center crew. Further analysis reveals that the beacon was directed towards a planet called Elysium beyond the solar system. The story follows Van, an 18-year-old pizza delivery boy who competes in a popular futuristic sport, turbo jai alai racing. He is in love with a ballerina named Lydia and they both dream of escaping the polluted city. Van enters a race hoping to win tickets to a galactic resort where Lydia can audition for a ballet. At the same time, an Elysian ambassador is destroyed by the humans' deep space observation vessel, triggering a full-scale attack on Earth. The stadium where Van is racing comes under fire, and he tries to rescue Lydia as they flee through burning streets and find safety in a fall-out shelter after a series of narrow escapes.

When aliens known as the Oni threaten to invade the Earth, they promise to leave under one condition—a randomly-chosen human must win a one-on-one game of tag against Lum, the beautiful daughter of the Oni leader. The "lucky" person selected happens to be the lustful and unlucky high schooler Ataru Moroboshi. Given 10 days to attempt to grab Lum's horns, Ataru realizes how impossible the challenge is as he is faced with Lum's extraterrestrial powers.
Motivated by a promise of marriage from his childhood friend Shinobu Miyake, Ataru manages to catch Lum off guard. He mistakenly grabs hold of her bikini top first, but he eventually achieves his true goal. Although the game is over, Lum misunderstands that she is the one whom Ataru wants to marry, and she decides to move in with him. The poor student constantly tries to shake off the clingy Lum while doing his best to reconcile with his desired fiancée. After Ataru's heroic feat results in such a disastrous outcome, it is questionable whether luck will ever be on his side.

Boku to Roboko
Robotic OrderMaids are popping up in every household, and 10-year-old Bondo Taira has found out that his two closest friends—Motsuo and Gachi Gorilla—have OrderMaids too. Motsuo, in particular, owns Meico, a beautiful robot that gives excellent massages and serves drinks with a smile. Jealous of his friend, Bondo convinces his mother to get him an OrderMaid, hoping for a similar experience.
However, to Bondo's surprise, the maid that appears outside of his door is incredibly muscular and clumsy enough to destroy a house when completing simple chores. Going by the name Roboko, this new robot is the exact opposite of what Bondo wanted. But despite that, Bondo, together with his friends, learns that there is more to Roboko than they could ever expect.
